An artist’s joy often lies in the intricate details, the fine lines that define and shape the world we perceive. It was this joy I found in portraying one of Porto’s iconic landmarks – the Dom Luís I Bridge. This illustration project was my canvas to express my deep respect and affection for this city that I call home.

Ponte Luís I, as it is locally known, is an engineering marvel that spans the Rio Douro, seamlessly uniting the two halves of Porto. This bridge is more than a transportation artery; it is a symbol of the city’s history, its progress, and its dynamic spirit.

A vibrant pulse courses through the structure, the steady rhythm of the yellow metro cars shuttling back and forth, a lifeblood connecting diverse lives and narratives. The challenge was to translate this energy, this perpetual motion, into a static outline without losing its vibrancy.

With every line and curve, I sought to bring the Dom Luís I Bridge alive, its architectural beauty blending with the functional elegance of a city’s lifeline. The arches, reaching skywards, echoed strength and grace in harmony, a testimony to Porto’s resilience and architectural heritage.

Working on this illustration was an enriching journey for me. I endeavored to capture not just the structure’s physical attributes, but also its essence – the rich history it embodies, the city it serves, and the silent stories it tells. This endeavor deepened my bond with Porto, immortalizing one of its significant landmarks in an illustration that reflects the city’s character and vitality.
